Sun Youth Food Bank gardens provide food bank users with fresh organic vegetables during the summer months. The project helps alleviate food insecurity in Montreal by providing immediate food assistance to marginalized populations at no cost.
Urban agriculture also has an educational component. The Sun Youth day camp participates in the vegetable harvest. Once a week, the various groups of campers and their counsellors go to help the gardeners. The gardeners help them discover the incredible variety of vegetables grown, help them recognize honey flowers, and explain pollination and related environmental issues.
